Flats Challenge Day 6

IMG_5420-002

Today we moved. Yes, moooooooved!! Moved to a new home.

We’ve been moving little things and getting our new place ready for a couple of weeks now. But today was the big move: moving clothes and beds, baby and nappies, toddler and toys.

It was a HUGE day. Flat nappies from the day before got rinsed and wrung and left to soak in the morning after breakfast was out of the way. It turned out to be a very long six-hour soak because I was only able to get back to them in the afternoon. I wasn’t worried about the flats (as I’ve said before, you can bleach them and boil them and they’ll still come back for more :)), I was worried about the elastics and PUL on my covers.

As for the style of fold used today, it was pad-folded birdseyes in velcro wool covers. Quick and easy. And I’m also starting to prefer them when it comes to washing. It’s easier to remove bits of poop from the smooth fabric of a birdseye flat compared to a traditional terry towelling nappy.

Anyway, I can’t say how much I’m looking forward to tomorrow. The LAST DAY of the challenge!! It’s been interesting and I’ve enjoyed reading about other people’s experiences. The DirtyDiaperLaundry flats and handwashing challenge has been something I’ve wanted to do ever since I read about it three years ago when stumbling across the wonderful DirtyDiaperLaundry.com by Kim Rosas. I was pregnant and reading up everything I could about modern cloth nappies. Well I have scratched that itch, ticked that off my to-do list, got that out of my system. Done and almost dusted.
